Have you ever had a moment when you look back at a period and just think: “wow! What a disaster!”
I definitely have and quite recently too. I’ll be honest with you: the last twelve months have not been a walk in the park. I’ve left two jobs, started a business and dealt with all of the highs and lows that life throws our way.
And yet, as tough as it’s been at times, I wouldn’t change any of it. Why? Because as hard as it has been, it’s also been a defining year in my life. A time when I have gained so much more than I’ve lost.
That realisation and lightbulb moment came when a friend of mine, Emma Lovell, sent me this quote:
“We learn wisdom from failure much more than success. We often discover what we will do, by finding out what we will not do.” – Samuel Smiles
At that moment, I knew I’d been looking at everything the wrong way. I needed to detach myself from what had happened and look at where it had taken me.
For so long, I was stuck in limbo because I really didn’t know what I wanted to do with myself. Now, I know and I’m living it everyday and I’m a much happier person because of it.
Sure, things aren’t perfect and I still have my moments, but when that clock ticks over to 2016 on New Years Eve, for the first time, I know I’m heading into the year exactly where I’m supposed to be.
Over to you: what sudden realisation have you had?
Have you fallen down only to look back and see why it was absolutely necessary?
